Maple Way Puppy Purchasing Information for Cocker Spaniels
Since 1997, we've been selecting exceptional Cockers, out of great bloodlines, from respected and knowledgeable breeders all across the USA. This has led to dogs we produce being consistent in type, structure, temperament and good health. Our Cockers continue to produce well rounded family dogs who are as comfortable in the home as they are in the show ring and hunting field. All of our puppies are American Kennel Club (AKC) registered from AKC champion bloodlines and field dogs.
We are committed to producing happy, healthy, long lived representatives of the breed through selective breeding, diet & exercise, socialization, and veterinary care. All puppies and dogs go with a detailed information packet on the individual dog, it's relatives (with photos and pedigrees) and the breed in general, as well as information on grooming, training and other points of interest. All go up-to-date on vaccinations and wormings as well as with tails docked and dewclaws removed according to the AKC standard. (According to the standard, the dewclaws can be left natural or removed, so we have them removed to prevent the nail growing into the dog's leg if the new owner forgets to trim them as dews can be hard to see in the Cocker's long coat.) They are accustomed to grooming, bathing and adults walking on lead. All are well socialized and love children, adults, other dogs and other pets.
Physical structure and soundness as well as personality, intelligence and understanding are evaluated at eight-weeks-of-age before leaving for their new homes. All are guaranteed, in writing, against physical and temperamental defects. They also go with lifetime support from us, and new owners are encouraged to contact us with any questions, advice, or to just talk dogs, throughout the life of the dog.
We breed to produce a pup to keep, love and show, ourselves, but also to provide others with a quality puppy who has had the best start in life and who possesses one of the best backgrounds. Background is where the pedigree comes in. If you know what dogs looked and acted like, and what their accomplishments were at home, in obedience, hunting, showing & breeding, and if they reproduced themselves well or even improved the quality, then you have a good idea of how the pups will turn out. Most of the pups here go back to many well known dogs, including Ch. Hitop's Flash Dancer (buff), multi specialty winning Ch. Tamra's Top Gun (black & tan) and BIS/BISS Am./Can. Ch. Bleumoon's Master Of Illusions (brown). Top producing brown Cocker in breed history. One of two top winning brown Cockers in breed history. {Key to abbreviations: AKC (American Kennel Club), Ch. (Champion), BIS (Best In Show), BISS (Best In Specialty Show), Am. (American), Can. (Canadian).}
Although color is not the main goal in our breeding program, if you are looking for a specific color, the choices we normally have in each variety group, depending on the parents, are: Any Solid Color Other than Black (A.S.C.O.B.) Variety: red, buff (looks blond), brown (also known as chocolate) and brown with tan points. Black Variety: black and black with tan points. We occasionally have Parti Color Variety puppies which include: black & white, black & white with tan points, brown & white and brown & white with tan points. At times we may have some with a merle pattern which include: black with merle pattern (blue merle), black with tan points and merle pattern (blue merle and tan), brown with merle pattern (brown merle), brown with tan points and merle pattern (brown merle and tan) and partis of those colors with merle pattern. (Keep in mind, we do not breed specifically for that pattern and merles cannot, as yet, be shown in AKC conformation. Merle is also not the same as roan or ticking. Merles should not be bred to other merles or to roans. Please see this website. http://merlecockers.com/ )
We do not ask a different purchase price for "special" colors, should they pop up, it's just a color. If we ask a different purchase price for different pups, it's not due to color or gender it's because of each pups' own personal structure, quality and bloodlines.
We have a few separate classifications for our puppies. They are:
Companion/Gundog - These are wonderful companions that are beautiful, perfectly healthy, structurally sound and well tempered but may possess a conformational fault that would hinder them in the AKC conformation show ring. It may be that the dog is taller or shorter than the breed standard calls for or that it has too much white fur to be shown in AKC conformation as a solid color but not enough white to be shown as a parti. The "companion" part of this classification is because we want all of our Cockers to be beloved pets first. The "gundog" part is because we breed to preserve the Cocker Spaniel's original instinct to flush gamebirds.
Companion/Show/Gundog/Breeding - These are beautiful, perfectly healthy, structurally sound and well tempered with no faults that would hinder them in the AKC conformation show ring. The "companion" part of this classification is, again, because we want all of our Cockers to be beloved pets first. The "gundog" part is because, as previously mentioned, we breed to preserve the flushing instinct and believe that a show/breeding dog should be able to do what the breed was originally bred for and pass on these qualities to the next generation. The "breeding" part is last because these dogs would be great for continuing the breed.....naturally with dogs that compliment their qualities.....but we don't want them going solely as "brood dogs".
Companion/Performance/Gundog/Breeding - These are beautiful, perfectly healthy, structurally sound and well tempered. They may or may not possess a fault that would hinder them in the AKC conformation show ring such as coat color, size or simply the fact that they just do not enjoy being in the showring. Dogs in this category, often, are very performance driven and do well in obedience competition, agility, rally, flyball, as therapy dogs and as gundogs (both family hunting buddies and in hunting/field competition). The "companion" part of this classification is, as previously mentioned, because we want all of our Cockers to be beloved pets, first. The "performance" and "gundog" parts are because these dogs are more driven to active competition in the previously mentioned events & activities, and because they naturally still possess the flushing instinct so important to the breed. The "breeding" part is because these dogs would be great for continuing the breed and passing on all these qualities, though due to coat color, size, etc. will need to be in a selective breeding program with dogs that compliment their qualities, in order to continue the all around companion/performance/gundog/show/breeding qualities in the resulting puppies (as all breedings should be). And again, the "breeding" part is last because we do not want them going solely as "brood dogs".
On occasion, we may have a pup that does not possess the flushing instinct and so that pup would be classified as simply, Companion.
Companions and Companion/Gundogs are placed on limited AKC registration, with full ownership to the new owner. Purchase price starts at $350.00. Here's a link to information about limited registration. http://www.akc.org/reg/limitedreg.cfm
Companion/Show/Gundog/Breeding are placed on full (unlimited) AKC registration, with full ownership to the new owner. Purchase price starts at $550.00. Companion/Performance/Gundog/Breeding are placed on full (unlimited) AKC registration, with full ownership to the new owner. Purchase price starts at $450.00. At times we may discuss the possibility of the new owner co-owning a show/breeding or performance/breeding pup with us. In these cases, unless otherwise previously agreed to, full ownership would be signed over to the new owner after the dog achieved its championship or a performance title, or after we received a breeding or puppy back. Puppies and young adults are available to loving, forever homes. Puppies are ready to leave for their new homes at 8 - 10 weeks of age. Shipping by plane is available worldwide depending on the weather. Shipping fee depends on the airline but normally runs around $300.00 within the continental United States. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at (304) 873-2727 or e-mail at BCIngram@hotmail.com Thank you. Sincerely, Chrissy Ingram

Please note: We do not charge extra for registration papers. When we (anyone) registers a litter, an individual registration application for each puppy in the litter is mailed back to us. The appropriate application is then supplied to the new owner at the time of sale or as soon as we get it, if for some reason we've not received it back from the AKC yet. It has come to our attention that some breeders are charging people one price *with* registration papers and another *without*.
It is common and acceptable to ask a higher purchase price for a show/breeding quality dog that has been evaluated as structurally superior when compared to the breed standard. This is based on the individual dog's qualities, its parents and its bloodlines. These pups are also, often, placed with full (unlimited) registration.
Some pups in the same litter may have a fault that would hinder them in the conformation show ring but by no means affect it in life. These pups often go for a reduced purchase price and limited registration which means the dog is registered and may compete in obedience, agility, etc., but may not compete in conformation showing and any accidental puppies out of that dog cannot be registered. These pups are often placed already spayed/neutered or on a spay/neuter agreement.
In the case of a performance/breeding quality dog, they may not be able to be shown in AKC conformation for something like coat color, size or not liking the show ring but are still structurally superior when compared to the breed standard. (Please see above for companion/performance/gundog/breeding description.)
As previously stated, we breed to produce a pup to keep, love and show, ourselves, but also to provide others with a quality puppy who has had the best start in life and who possesses one of the best backgrounds. We try to provide healthy, happy, loving, quality dogs to loving individuals and families for a reasonable price.
Many pet owners don't want to pay a lot of money for a dog who will do no more than lay on the couch and play with the kids but then realize that the "bargain" puppy they found has health or temperament issues, there is no guarantee and no support from the dog's breeder.
Many show/breeding owners think you have to pay a small fortune to make sure you have a quality dog. Normally, this is the way it goes but sometimes that high priced dog has no real breeder support either. Sometimes one is just paying for a name or a so called "rare" color.
We personally paid a lot of money for most of our dogs, after doing a lot of research into the breeders, their dogs and their bloodlines. With the area that we live in and the fact that we do not wish to "make money" off our dogs (it just goes back into their toys, food, grooming supplies, showing, etc.), we try to keep the price somewhere in the middle so that people who just want a pet can have a well bred companion and so that folks wanting a good show/breeding dog, can also afford it.
Again, I hope the information on this site helps you and if you have any questions, we're always happy to talk dogs. |
