Great Pyrenees
-
Generally, a dog's first estrus season will start around six to twelve months of age but this varies depending on the dog. On average, seasons occur every six months. Seasons usually last about three weeks during which time the female must be confined away from all intact (not neutered) male canines until she is completely out of season. Tying out does not work, she must be in a secure pen or kennel when outside as well as either she or your males penned away when inside. (Seasons will sometimes be early or late, so it’s best to contact us as early as possible.)
-
Please note: Contrary to the popular myth, Great Pyrenees will breed with other breeds and mixes of dog. They have also been known to breed with wolves and other canines. Some instincts are just too strong to take chances with so secure confinment is necessary to ensure pure breeding. Don't depend on your other dogs to keep intruders away, just in case.
-
A female being brought for service to one of our males must be at least twenty-four-months of age at the time of breeding.
-
The season she is being bred to one of our males must be, at least, her second season.
-
Before the time of breeding, send a copy of her four generation pedigree, a copy of her registration certificate and at least four photos of her. If you wish, you may also send a video of your female along with the photos.
-
The female must be examined by a licensed veterinarian, shortly prior to breeding, to ensure that she is mature and in proper condition to be bred, pregnant, whelp and raise a litter.
-
She must have all of her vaccinations, de-worming and a titer test (run by a veterinarian) for Brucellosis. http://www.vetinfo.com/dencyclopedia/debrucel.html
-
Her owner must provide us with a veterinarian certificate (signed by the licensed veterinarian who preformed the examining, tests and treatments on the female) stating that she has been tested for and found free of worms; is up to date on all of her vaccinations and de-worming; is in proper condition for the breeding, pregnancy, whelping and raising of a litter and has been tested for and found free of Brucellosis. http://www.vetinfo.com/dencyclopedia/debrucel.html
-
Examination and testing to be preformed not more than fourteen business days prior to scheduled breeding. All information is to be received by us prior to breeding.
-
The female must have good hips, knees, eyes, temperament, instinct, movement and type with verification of all prior to breeding.
-
All of the stud's information (the same as for the female) will be presented to the female's owner before the time of breeding.
-
A litter of at least two live puppies is guaranteed in writing. If breeding does not result in at least two live pups, a free breeding is provided.
-
The female’s owner must not be under suspension by the American Kennel Club (AKC) or Great Pyrenees Club of America (GPCA).
-
As stated above, we must pre-approve the female and her pedigree as having correct structure, temperament, type and gentle working guardian abilities (in no particular order) along with the genetics to produce fine quality offspring for the preservation and continuation of the breed and its abilities.
-
Stud fee -- Private treaty or "pick of the litter".
