Visiting Maple Way
Years ago, we removed our address from our website at the advice of a long-time show and livestock guardian breeder of Great Pyrenees. With internet access it has become far too easy for criminals to find exactly where someone lives and how to get there. Therefore, please call, e-mail or fill out the form below to schedule a visit. We are a very busy family. My oldest daughter is involved with many sports. Besides our dogs, we own cats, sheep, goats, horses and sometimes other livestock animals like chickens; so much of our time is spent with the animals. We like going for rides, taking walks and of course dog shows. Our schedule is sporadic to say the least so we must make time when someone wants to come see puppies.
When you arrive here, expect to disinfect your hands and the bottom of your shoes, especially if there are young pups present at the time. We will provide hand sanitizer and your shoes will be disinfected by either stepping into a pan with bleach water (or Top Performance 256 disinfectant), or using a spray bottle of bleach water (or TP 256) so it's best not to wear flips or shoes with holes and be careful not to get it on your clothes.
Many people visit more than one place when deciding on a puppy or dog. They may also have recently been to a park, veterinary office, animal shelter or some other place with the potential to pick up diseases on their hands and feet. Our dogs and puppies are vaccinated and wormed on a regular basis but we want to take the appropriate precautions.
When you come, do not expect to see row after row of concrete kennel runs. We refuse to keep our dogs on concrete. It is bad for their joints. We prefer large exercise areas of dirt, gravel or grass. Gravel keeps them cleaner for a longer period of time, but they do love to dig. They alternate house time and love the large "pens", playing with their toys and chasing butterflies.
We encourage you to bring your children but please remember to keep them under control. The excitement at seeing the dogs and puppies can be overwhelming, and indeed, all our dogs love children. We love kids and we love animals.
When my children and I go somewhere, for a visit, I expect them to be on their best behavior. Kids will be kids and none are perfect but if mine ran wild at someone else's home or went anywhere without asking the homeowner, they'd soon be back at my side or waiting in the car. Respect for someone's home and property is very important. If you cannot control your children, why should we think that you could control a puppy or dog? They speak separate but similar languages. You may need to learn how to speak "dog" but we can help you with that. {smile :) }
I mention this simply because of some past experiences we've had. We've had folks come for visits and suddenly their children are everywhere without so much as washing their hands (note the previous mention on disease). I do not like to feel I'm being rude to people and expect for parents to have a basic grasp on common courtesy so this type of thing does take me by surprise.
Other, adult, visitors have shown up at our home without ever calling or e-mailing, which has resulted in us not being home at the time or a "less than presentable me". We've had folks talk to us on the phone and say they want to come in a few weeks and then suddenly just call one day and say, "Ok, we're in West Union, which one is your house", without ever scheduling a day or time. Again, we may not be home, may be heading out or may simply be having family time. Also, let me point out that we live in a very rural area. The town of West Union is the only town in the county so that is our address but we do not live in town.
If you wish to visit, please schedule a day and time with me and we will be happy to have you. Below is our contact information.
